The Guilt

Juan Diego Jaramillo | August 28th, 2021

I did not do enough, I am responsible for the problem, I was not mature, if only I had listened in time, I was not sensitive to their needs, I took a decision lightly, ... These are some of the expressions of those who battle in their soul and mind with destructive guilt. While it is true that we should not apologize by means of irony: "we are all sinners", it is no less true that cruelly attacking our self-esteem goes against the divine will, since it is a commandment to love ourselves!

How can we continue to serve and value those around us if our self-esteem is weakened? In God's perfect plan, everything has a purpose, even if the present looks dark and uncertain at first glance. In the midst of a heavy storm on the high seas, one must have the hope that solid ground awaits the patient and courageous; moreover, we cannot forget that one of the most devastating weapons used by the enemy of peace and freedom is inordinate guilt.

Job 1:20-22 NKJV

20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked shall I return there.
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.

Matthew 22:37-39 NKJV

37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

Job 2:7-10 NKJV

7 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and struck Job with painful boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. 8 And he took for himself a potsherd with which to scrape himself while he sat in the midst of the ashes.

9 Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!”

10 But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

Job 19:26-27 NKJV

26 And after my skin is destroyed, this I know,
That in my flesh I shall see God,
27 Whom I shall see for myself,
And my eyes shall behold, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me!
