In the middle of the dense vegetation, two missionaries walked at the slow pace of the horses that carried their backpacks when they were led by a guide; the exotic and beautiful birds, surprisingly exhibited their amazing attributes and the tufted monkeys, with their loud voice, announced the majestic domains of the jungle; also, from time to time they crossed in their path, coots and colorful snakes. Facing the difficult mud of the trail, they found a small house similar to a hut; when they stopped to observe, from inside, an old woman with a sweet and peaceful expression of soul came out to invite them to follow.
The one who leads the beasts, continues to a small and nearby hamlet, seeing that the servants of God accept the proposal; while they were chatting about Jesus, suddenly and politely, the sweet woman takes one of the two animals she owned; a hen, staying with them, her faithful dog. It took a few minutes to hear what sounded like a squawk, it was then and immediately the youngest of the men, with tears in his eyes, asked his companion: "Did she kill the bird!!!? To receive as an answer a yes; after a while, she brought with her two plates of soup overflowing with delight and love.
She delivered the only thing she had! Meaning for the two men, a fortune! For the selfless and humble attitude with which it was offered. A week after this act of love and faith, they receive the news about the death of the helpful and spiritual old woman.
Luke 21:1-4 NKJV
1 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”
2 Corinthians 8:1-4 NKJV
1 Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia: 2 that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality. 3 For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing, 4 imploring us with much urgency that we would receive the gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
