Before the helpless and curious gaze of those attending a Sunday meeting, a deacon took out of his briefcase a handsaw; what for? the confused spectators asked themselves; immediately and to the great astonishment and confusion of those present, he began to split the pulpit in half. By the time all the members of the congregation arrived, the pulpit was already separated into two parts. The servant of the group said, addressing two preachers who were working there: so that there will be no more divisions between the two of you in the future, let each one take his part!
For some time, hostility and competition characterized the "brotherhood" between them; if the work were done for the glory and honor of the Lord Jesus Christ and if the main theme of the Bible studies were precisely the Bible, selfish confrontations between brothers would have fled long ago.
James 4:1-3 NKJV
1 Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Philippians 1:15-18 NKJV
15 Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill: 16 The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; 17 but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.
Colossians 3:23-24 NKJV
23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
