God, Nothing Before Him

Dogmatizing that the existence of matter is eternal, and that life and the harmonious universe arose spontaneously from it as a result of non-INTELLIGENT and non-CONSCIOUS chance, contradicts two laws of modern science: The second law of thermodynamics and the law of biogenesis.

The second law of thermodynamics supports the principle of energy degradation. How is this explained? Let us see: The energy of the physical universe quantitatively does not vary; it is conserved in its entirety. But since every activity in nature requires energy change or transformation, the amount of available energy becomes less and less every day. We know that the earth receives almost all its energy from the sun; but the energy that the sun emits is continually being transformed in space into unrecoverable heat energy. Therefore, it is sensible to conclude that the day will come when the sun, since no more usable energy is being created anywhere in the universe, will be consumed; and consequently there will be no more existence on earth and no more light in the stars.

The Bible also, in comparing the transitoriness of the heavens and the earth with the eternity of their Creator, suggests the degradation of energy. Let us read: "Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You will endure; Yes, they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will change them, and they will be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will have no end." (Psalm 102:25-27 NKJV).

Now, if the universe is wearing out, it must be accepted that it has not always existed; it had a beginning with a determined purpose. Why, then, not accept the Genesis account of creation, starting from its first verse: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1 NKJV)?

On the other hand, the law of biogenesis affirms that life can only come from already existing life; and this agrees with the Bible which declares that God is the giver of life; and that only from Him, everything has come forth. No one can satisfactorily explain the origin of life unless he accepts the existence of the Creator.

For the materialists, man with his intelligence, his moral conscience and his spirituality, is only the product of what they call the natural development of matter. We consider it more rational to admit that an intelligence (God) created matter, life and man endowed with intelligence, morality and spirituality. Anyone who undertakes the task of searching for evidence of the existence of God will discover that it is more rational to accept it than to deny it.
